Victor and Roser escape the Spanish Civil War (Franco) on a rescue ship sponsored by Pablo Neruda, a famous poet, and landed in Chile. Then comes along Augusto Pinochet and his reign of terror. A great story of love and survival. Allende has such a gift of character development and descriptive writing. Loved this book! Love all of Allende's books!
