Lisa Genova was a neuroscientist before she was an author and it's apparent from her novels. Her fiction deals with characters suffering from neurological disorders, and with the ease of a doctor explaining to a patient, her explanatory prose helps inform readers of these tragic conditions without any air of condescension.
Still Alice is about a 50-year-old professor at Harvard and linguist who is suffering from early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Popularized by the movie of the same name which garnered Julianne Moore an Oscar, this is Genova's most well-known work--if you haven't read her others, definitely check them out!
