This book can be a yearly re-read and the movie is a must-watch. Picture a young Novalee (played by Natalie Portman in the movie) abandoned by her boyfriend in a Walmart! She lives there for a few weeks until she has her baby and is befriended by wonderful but kooky townspeople. She finds a home and a career and lives happily ever after.
Bilie Letts writes wonderful books. She's very similar to Fannie Flagg and Barbara Kingsolver. Did you know that her son is the famous playwright and actor, Tracy Letts? If you like her books, read Made in the U.S.A., Shoot the Moon, The Honk and Holler Opening Soon, and Finding Dorothy.
